A kitchen storage rack may be aesthetically pleasing, yet it is the test of time, and the ability to hold a lot of weight that counts. We tested all the layered carbon steel racks of Shenzhen Deshunyi Household Products Co., Ltd. which employs more than 1,800 people, 120,000 m2 of Huizhou and a new 100,000 m2 plant in Vietnam. Four significant tests are listed below that could be used to distinguish between stable and unstable racks.
1. Static Load Testing: How Much Weight Can It Hold?
The static load testing will aim at uncovering the ability of a rack to support at rest loads. The industry standard (e.g., ANSI/BIFMA X5.9) should be 4 to 6 times its rated weight without lasting deflection on a shelf. The test uses 200300 kg on 24 hours on a typical kitchen rack having a rating of 50 kg/shelf. The deflection that is tolerated is not more than 5 mm, although we have hydraulic presses and dial gauges with which we test each batch at Deshunyi. Our carbon steel racks are always oversized--in nearly 72 hours full load shelf sag is virtually nil. Always request the suppliers to provide certified reports of the static load and not some calculation.
2. Dynamic Load & Impact Testing: Simulating Real-Life Use
Kitchen racks are always on the move- sliding pots, falling cast-iron pans and rolling trolleys over doorways. Dynamic testing includes:
Cyclic loading: 10,000 loading and offloading of a load 15 kg.
Impact test: Falling on the shelf surface of a 5 kg of steel ball.
Edge drop test (on trolley racks): 500 steps of a complete rack (loaded) roll.
The fact that these tests are passed is a promise that there will be no cracking of welds, or chipping of coatings. The plant in Vietnam comprises of pneumatic actuators which undertake cyclic tests. The vibration simulation when a door of a microwave is closed, a common failure of less expensive designs, is also simulated in microwave rack case.
3. Stability & Overturn Resistance: Preventing Accidents
A hanging weight rack is not secure. Stability testing: Here the center of gravity of the rack being tested is not uniformly loaded. The typical test (EN 16122 or ASTM F2057) tests the upper shelf with 120 percent of the rated load, and then acts a horizontal force at a height of 600 mm. The steepness of the rack should not exceed 15 degrees. Additional tests include:
Drawer pull test (when there is a sliding basket in the rack): 500 N outward force
Caster brake test (on trolley racks): It can be expected that the loaded wheels with the lock will be able to support 250 N of rolling load.
The 360-degree tip tests are tested on inclined planes (up to 10 degrees) on our trolley racks. All Deshunyi kitchen racks sold into the North American and EU markets have anti-tilt brackets and wide base design.
4. Corrosion & Weld Integrity Testing: Long-Term Durability
The conditions in the kitchen include dampness, hot weather and acid spills. Corrosion testing is done in a salt spray chamber (ASTM B117). An excellent kitchen rack should have a life span of 200 + hours without red rust. We electrostatically powder coat 80-100 microns, cross hatch adhesion tests. Checks on Weld integrity:
Macro-etch testing: The welds can be cut and tested to determine whether it is porous or not.
Tensile pull test: Force is applied until weld separation occurs until weld separation (at least 70% of base metal strength)
Fatigue test: 50,0000 alternating loads at 2 Hz.
We use zinc-aluminum alloy coating (500 + hours salt spray) in the racks that we sell in coastal locations (e.g. Southeast Asia or Middle East). Traceability of the batch of weld inspection done on all the Deshunyi microwave racks and folding drying racks is available.
Conclusion
It is not a choice but the key to safe and durable kitchen storage rack, durability and bearing capacity. The racks tests are as follows: to guarantee that your racks can be used in the real kitchens the tests are: Static load, dynamic impact, stability and corrosion/weld tests. Being a reputable producer, having plants both in China and Vietnam, Deshunyi will be in a position to offer a certified test report of all product lines that include layered carbon steel racks, shoe cabinets and bed frames. The sourcing is based on demand as opposed to commitments.
